Once used merely as communication tools, mobile phones have evolved into smartphones that allow digital solutions for everyday needs.

Devices that once only allowed voice calls and short text messages now offer features like internet connectivity, video calls, and content streaming, among many others. Modern devices add more features that reduce our dependency on other necessary accessories.

For example, physical wallets are needed to store cash, bank cards, IDs and other important documents, while digital wallets help do the same thing only with soft copies.

Apart from these, digital wallets also offer users some extra features that normal wallets may not offer. Moreover, some manufacturers now include digital wallets integrated with their devices so that consumers don't need to download third-party wallets to make transactions through their smartphones.

1: Check the merchant accepts contactless payments - look for the contactless symbol

2: Double-tap the button on the right of the phone or watch

3: Select the card you want to pay with on your phone

4: Verify the payment, if required, with your passcode or biometrics

5: Hold your phone or watch near the payment terminal

6: Your payment will go through - just like using a contactless payment card

Does Apple Wallet charge a fee?

Apple does not charge for using Apple Wallet. However, it's worth remembering that you might encounter fees when using Apple Wallet internationally, which are levied by your own card issuer rather than Apple.

Apple Wallet allows you to use your credit or debit card more conveniently - but any fees applied by your card network or issuer will still apply. That means that if your card issuer charges a cash advance fee or a foreign transaction fee, these will still apply when you use your card through Apple Wallet.

The good news is that not all payment cards charge these international fees.

Does Apple Wallet have a limit?

If you use Apple Wallet to spend in stores or online with a linked debit or credit card, the limits that apply are usually set by your bank or card issuer. That means they're the same as those you'd run into if you were spending with your card at a payment terminal directly.

The only exception is if you're using Apple Cash to send payments to others. In this case, there are some limits to the amount you can send³ —we'll look at the Apple Cash payment options in more detail later.
